What’s happening in Pattaya?

Would you believe there is going to be a national bartender’s competitions held here in Pattaya at the Dusit Hotel? Yes, sports fans, bartenders from all around the nation and maybe beyond will be descending on Pattaya for that very wild and exciting event of bar tending competition. We expect the music to be loud and fast-paced and the martini shakers to be keeping rhythm to the beat as the bottles fly and twirl through the air like the propellers on a DC-6. Naturally this will attract on-lookers with an eye for fun and excitement and a severe drinking problem. We expect there will be many ladies in the audience because this will be a high fashion event, as the Dusit Hotel is known to only host such events. This event will start at 10 am. The bartenders from the Pattaya hotels will compete first. The bartenders from the rest of Thailand will compete in the afternoon. The first prize will be a trophy and a prize of approximately 10,000 Baht for bartenders from Pattaya and a prize of 15,000 Baht for the grand champion bar tender from all of Thailand.
On November 17th through the 19th the country of Thailand will be celebrating the ancient tradition known as “Loy Kratong”.
On the full moon night of the twelfth month the tide in the rivers is highest and the moon is brightest, creating a romantic setting ideal for lovers. Loy Kratong is the most picturesque and beautiful of all the Thai celebrations. The Loy Kratong ritual is a simple one. One only needs to light a candle and the joss sticks, make one’s wishes and let it float away in a banana leaf toy boat with the current of the river, canal or in the ocean. Its flame is said to signify longevity, fulfillment of wishes and the release from sins. Couples who make a wish together on Loy Kratong are thought to stay together. Another explanation of this celebration is that it is a way to pay respect to one’s ancestors. In the 13th century, a young queen named Nang Noppamas was believed to be the one who made a small boat laden with candles and incense and floated it down the river. It’s a good time to make wishes. Loy Kratong is particularly delightful in the provinces of Sukhothani, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya and Bangkok. There are light and sound shows, decorated floats and parades. Up in the night sky, thousands of “Khom Loy” (floating lanterns) drifts into the night. Come join the celebrations.
The 20th world Scout Jamboree will take place from December 28th 2002 through January 7th 2003. Approximately 25,000 boy scouts between the ages of 14 to 17 years of age will travel from around the world to Sattahip, Chonburi Province. They will be supported by 6,000 adult volunteers working around the clock. The Royal Thai Government will support this world event. The theme is “Share our world, Share our culture”. This 11-day event will have various activities that will help the boy scouts to heighten their physical, psychological and intellectual development.
“October fest” will be celebrated throughout Pattaya and Thailand at a verity of hotels, restaurants, bars and breweries. This big event will take place from October 18th through November 10th. There is a large number of Germans in Pattaya and Thailand who enjoy good food, a cold beer and a little music. It is a great time to be in Pattaya with this international group of fun people. Come join the fun. It’s good for you.
