It is a wonder that a small boy from the rice fields of Esarn, speaking Laos- the dialect of the northeast of Thailand-should survive the hardship, poverty, series of political upheavals and massacres to be able, years later, to offer readers worldwide his literary works written originally in English, now translated into several languages. Today, over one million persons around the world have read his books.
